By NoKYCZone Editorial Published Last reviewed How we score

IVPN is one of the oldest privacy-focused VPN providers, operating from Gibraltar since 2009 under the Privatus Limited / IVPN Limited banner. Unlike mainstream consumer VPNs, it treats minimising data collection as a product requirement rather than a marketing claim.

How it works

Sign-up produces a random account number — no email, no username, no personal details. Payment options are designed around the same principle: Monero via a self-hosted full node, Bitcoin via self-hosted BTCPay, cash by mail, and prepaid voucher codes are all accepted without linking the payment to an identity. Credit cards and PayPal remain available for users who accept the trade-off. Once the payment clears, the account is funded and usable with a single 16-digit ID on desktop, iOS and Android clients.

KYC & privacy

IVPN does not request, require or accept identification at any stage. Its warrant canary is updated monthly and has remained clean for the entire operating history — no subpoenas, no seizures, no warrants served. A public transparency page lists infrastructure servers, audit engagements and team membership (CEO and sole owner Nicholas Pestell is openly identified). The no-logs policy has been independently verified by Cure53 annually from 2019 through 2025 — six consecutive years of audits, each with a full report released. A 2026 infrastructure review by Trail of Bits turned up no protocol-level weaknesses.

Strengths and limits

The Gibraltar jurisdiction places IVPN outside the 5/9/14 Eyes intelligence-sharing arrangements. All Android, iOS, Windows, macOS and Linux clients are open-source and distributed on GitHub. WireGuard is the default protocol; AntiTracker blocks ads and trackers at the DNS layer; multi-hop and obfuscation are available on the higher tier. The service runs its own DNS resolvers and refuses to log flows at any layer. Limits are real — the network of roughly 100 servers in ~40 countries is smaller than mainstream competitors, and the single-tier pricing model is positioned against premium peers rather than budget providers.

Verdict

With a score of 9.3/10 and a KYC level rated anonymous (L1), IVPN is among the genuinely hard-to-deanonymise VPN options on the market. The combination of no-identifier sign-up, anonymous payment rails, a six-year Cure53 audit chain and 17 years of incident-free operation is rare in this category.
